Maintenance of marble worktops

Marble adds a touch of luxury and elegance, making it perfect for those who value aesthetics over practicality.

Marble is a luxurious and timeless worktop material that enhances any room with its distinctive colours and patterns. With proper care, marble surfaces can provide beauty and elegance for years to come.

Marble is a wholly natural material, with each piece showcasing unique colours and patterns. This historic building and decorative stone is renowned for its classic elegance and luxurious appeal.

Marble used for worktops is extracted from the earth’s crust, cut to size, and then its surface and edges are meticulously finished.

Although marble is a softer material compared to granite, its decorative qualities, variety of patterns and colours, and warmer, cosier shades make it popular for use as floor and wall tiles, window sills, and fireplace finishes. However, it is not recommended to use polished marble on the floors of high-traffic areas.

Preference should be given to a stone with a matte surface because, in high-traffic areas, polished marble can wear out and lose its luster over time. Marble is not recommended for kitchen countertops because it is relatively porous and soft. This makes it prone to stains and scratches. However, a high-polished marble surface will remain beautiful for decades on walls, floors, bathrooms, or as a splashback tile!

Since marble scratches and stains easily, regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and durability of marble worktops. The softness and porosity of marble require diligent care to maintain the beautiful appearance of the worktops.

How to clean a marble worktop?

A microfiber cloth moistened with warm water is best for daily cleaning. For more stubborn dirt, we recommend using a neutral, slightly alkaline (pH 8–10) or slightly acidic (pH 4–6) detergent.

The longest service life is ensured by cleaning products specially designed for the maintenance of natural stone surfaces. Cleaning agents that contain bleaching agents, have an abrasive effect or are highly acidic should be avoided, as they can permanently damage the surface.

How to avoid heat damage and scratches?

Marble is a very soft stone. To avoid scratches, we recommend using cutting boards. While marble can tolerate heat to some extent, we advise using heat mats to prevent potential damage.

What to do in case of stains?

The best way to deal with stains is to prevent them in the first place. This is especially the case with marble, which is porous and therefore very absorbent. Avoid exposing your marble worktop to chemicals and caustic substances.

Dirt and stains on the surface are best removed immediately with household paper, water and detergent to avoid permanent damage. For stronger stains, use a special marble surface cleaner. After that, wash the surface with water and detergent. You can buy a suitable cleaning agent from us or, depending on your country, from a local store.

Does marble need regular maintenance?

To ensure a long service life, the marble surface is impregnated with sealing chemicals that prevent liquids from penetrating the stone. Over time, this protective layer weakens. To protect the marble worktop, it is necessary to impregnate it regularly.

Regular impregnation helps protect the marble worktop by preventing liquid absorption and stain formation. The need for maintenance depends on the intensity of use and the type of marble surface. We recommend re-impregnating the surface at least once a year.

A special marble impregnation agent must be used to re-impregnate a marble worktop. You can buy a suitable cleaning agent from us or, depending on your country, from a local store.
