Maintenance of granite worktops

Granite provides unmatched durability and timeless elegance

Granite worktops are natural and distinctive, providing exceptional durability and heat resistance. They are crafted from granite that has been quarried and processed into suitable pieces. With proper care, these worktops will last for many years.

Granite is a wholly natural material, with each piece showcasing unique colours and patterns. Granite’s hardness and good workability make it an excellent building material.

Granite used for worktops is extracted from the earth’s crust, cut to size, and then its surface and edges are meticulously finished.

Granite worktops are primarily characterised by high durability and heat resistance, and with regular maintenance they last for a very long time.

How to clean a granite worktop?

A microfiber cloth moistened with warm water is best for daily cleaning. For more stubborn dirt, we recommend using a neutral, slightly alkaline (pH 8–10) or slightly acidic (pH 4–6) detergent.

The longest service life is ensured by cleaning products specially designed for the maintenance of natural stone surfaces. Cleaning agents that contain bleaching agents, have an abrasive effect or are highly acidic should be avoided, as they can permanently damage the surface.

How to avoid heat damage and scratches?

Although granite is scratch and heat resistant, it is, however, still not indestructible. To avoid scratches, we recommend using cutting boards, and heat mats will help protect surfaces from heat damage.

What to do in case of stains?

The best way to deal with stains is to prevent them in the first place. Keep your granite worktop from exposure to chemicals and corrosive substances. Also be careful with metal objects near the worktop, especially for polished and leathery surfaces, as they can easily scratch surfaces.

Dirt and stains on the surface are best removed immediately with household paper, water and detergent to avoid permanent damage. If left uncleaned, dirt can dry out or penetrate the stone. If this occurs, avoid using corrosive cleaners and opt for a specific natural stone cleaner. After that, wash the surface with water and detergent. Does a granite worktop need regular maintenance?

To ensure a long service life, the granite surface is impregnated with sealing chemicals that prevent liquids from penetrating the stone. Over time, this protective layer weakens. To protect the granite worktop, it is necessary to regularly impregnate it.

The need for maintenance depends on the intensity of use of the worktop and the type of granite. For light granite, it is advisable to apply a re-impregnating treatment annually. The dark granite surface should be maintained regularly at intervals of 1 to 2 years.

To re-impregnate the granite worktop, a special impregnation agent for natural stone must be used. You can buy a suitable cleaning agent from us or, depending on your country, from a local store.
